Tilikum, a 12,000 lb Orca, killed a trainer in SeaWorld yesterday… she’s the third person he’s killed.

There is no known record of killer whales killing someone in the wild.

I’ve been leading trips to swim with wild dolphins and whales for 15 years. I’ve never seen a dolphin or a whale injur anyone in the wild (I wouldn’t bring people swim with them if they did!).

SeaWorld is protecting their assets; reporting things like “This has never happened before” and “He grabbed her pony tail by mistake”…  Yuck… See the movie “The Cove’, and you’ll know how much money having captive cetaceans is…

As humans, we give meanings to things. Something happens, like a trainer being killed by a whale, and our brain wants to give a meaning to it.

What meaning do we give this???

One definition of mastery is being deliberate about the meaning we give things…

  1. Great video! Thank you for making this. I agree, these animals deserve more respect. I’m surprised there aren’t more “attacks” or what I would call “out cries” from these animals considering they are taken from their families and placed into over-sized concrete bathtubs with loud music and people. I hope everyone that witness the Orca out cry at Seaworld will learn that there are better ways to enjoy these animals without going to Seaquariums where they are wasting away.

I couldn’t agree with you more.
We must respect These magnificent animals, they belong in the Oceans.
I love them so much, my respect & admiration for all cetaceans are so strong. I hope some day soon they are left alone and in peace.

  3. My respect and admiration is the same… they are absolutely amazing and have much to share with us; from the ocean.

  4. I love your re-wording of attack to outcry… that is what it is, an outcry…

  5. This is absolutely wonderful that you have put this out there. As I watched the newscast this morning, I felt the same way. Why do we have to put these animals in captivity when they are the Record Keepers of this Earth. It enrages me to see this happening that our human race feels they are superior to these beings of Light.

I know from an intuitive sense that it is anger that causes them to act this way and I would be the same if I was in that cage they have to inhabit.

Blessings to you for creating this video.
    Christine

  6. I feel sad for the gal and her family. But I can only feel these giants need to be free and out with their pods.
I have never liked seeing them in captivity~
    Thank you for your blog.

  7. It’s not like they don’t have it on video. I read somewhere that more than 1 seemed agitated that day. We may never know what happened or what was different that day but something surely was different.
They are telling people that the whale will not be isolated from other whales. What is the their point? I would think isolation from people would be the subject.
Dolphins amazingly can lead you to fish as well as keep sharks at bay.
I’m posting this publicly, you can delete it if you want. The most important lessons I learned from shark fishermen.
Never ever go in any body of water if you have cuts or bleeding…yes menstrual cycle included. Delicate subject that is is..no one ever actually says it do they? well they should.
Do not bait the fish, then take a swim…it’s commmon sense.
Soap is a deterrent & will run a shark miles away…they absolutely hate it.
On a lighter note I learned what to do with all those little bars of soap from hotels & soap on a rope.
My fear of sharks vs. my love of the ocean…that is another blog.

  8. I could not agree with you more, whales and dolphins belong in the wild as nature intends. I hope this will be an eye opener for the public to see and stop paying for these shows. They need not die to please us anymore.

  9. This was truly tragic what happened to that trainer. I hope that this brings more awareness to wild animals being used for our entertainment. They are WILD and should be admired and respected in there own environment. We have the power to say no to this keeping wild animals in captivity in humane these animals travel hindereds of miles in a day and on captivity they swim I’m circles all day. What if we were never allowed to travel outside your neighborhood?

  10. What they deserve is to be free, by jailing any animal in a zoo, shows not just a lack of respect but a lack of connection and sacredness for all life…..nice vid Joe

  11. Rampant cats and dogs will get put down.
Rampant whales and dolphins shall get released.
I prefer not to visit parks or shows with wild animals in captivity.

  12. If you put me in a cage I would make an outcry as well. Once I heard a botanist say, “Mother nature always gets her due.” When we work outside of the laws of nature we have consequences outside the laws of nature.
