Ho'oponopono Ceremony at The Cove in Taiji, Japan, with holy water from sacred springs around the world.

I love dolphins and am involved in a number of projects to help them. (Do the dolphins really need our help, or is it the other way around….)

Right now the annual dolphin hunting season has resumed in Japan, and emotions are running high for animal lovers around the world.

Its easy to be angry at someone who kills something you love, and having been to ‘The Cove’ and seen the waters run red with the blood of dolphins, I know firsthand the initial flush of rage and righteousness.

But this righteousness comes with a price…

This blog post is not just about dolphins…. as the dolphins dying in the cove have shown me, this is about our judgment of the actions of others, how quick we are to condemn those who break our hearts or our rules of how things should be…

The dolphins showed me something that I did not expect; they showed me compassion, compassion for all people, even those who kill them.

That’s a rather saintly attitude to me, even more evidence of their elevated spiritual stature. Yup, I place dolphins above humans when it comes to awareness, wisdom, playfulness and loving compassion. They inspire me, they are my heroes.

So much so that, last January, as I watched the dolphin hunters drive pods of dolphins into the cove for sale and for slaughter, I opened my heart to the pain and sadness and anger and let it break…

It hurt…

I cried, felt the riotous confusion of feelings we all feel when faced with the death of that which we love…

And in those moments of broken-heartedness, something happened…

As I gave myself fully to the pain and anger and sorrow, let them run havoc through me, tearing and hurting and destroying, I became aware of something else, something quiet and subtle in the background, something bigger than the destruction happening within and around me…

It was not a conscious act, it was not something I could summon or evoke, it was something that I could simply notice, and in the noticing, allow…

It was compassion, and its love encompassed me and the hunters and the dolphins, and it showed me that we are all actors upon the same stage. Different costumes for sure, but undeniably the same cast.

It showed me that we are all one, and the drama playing out before me was the blink of an eye in creation, each actor playing their part so fully they believed them to be true…

Except for the dolphins. They remembered, they knew the greater truth… That they and all of this is but a moment in infinity, and they are free and eternal as is all life…

I came to understand how the dolphins could both struggle to be free of the nets at the same time they surrender into the arms of the fishermen who kill them…

They know what we have forgotten…

Total aliveness, total compassion, complete surrender.

My humanness stood in awe, and in that moment I remembered that we are all eternal, all actors, spiritual beings having human (and dolphin) experiences…

The hatred melted in the warm flood of compassion, my righteousness along with it. Yes it still hurts to see the death of those I love, and my tears are just as real as before. But they are tempered with a greater knowing, a knowing that I once again thank my cetacean friends for helping reveal within me…

Dear Friends;

I’ve become involved in The Cove in Taiji, Japan through assisting some conference calls among the activist groups involved there. Its become clear to me that making the fishermen and the Japanese people ‘wrong’ for hunting dolphins doesn’t work… (what you resist, persists…)

Rather, the situation is a call for love.

My heart hears the call and I’ve been guided to go there. I’ll be arriving there Jan 6th. I’m going to be interviewed by a Japanese reporter for my ‘unique’ position on the issue, and have the opportunity to reach a majority of the Japanese people.

What do I wish to say?

Well, once upon a time, I would have said to stop killing dolphins. That was before I knew how polarized people are on this situation, and how offended the Japanese people are by our past actions on behalf of the dolphins, and how any activism on behalf of the dolphins is literally perceived as terrorism against their culture…

Now, I go to do Ho’oponopono, and to share a sacred Water Ceremony there…

The village of Taiji has become a focal point for people around the world. The fishermen, the village and the Japanese people have been condemned for the hunting of dolphins and whales. There has been much anger, hatred and separation between people, organizations and cultures. This separation is a reflection of the imbalance within us all.

The first part of the ceremony is taking personal responsibility for the polarization that presently exists and bringing healing through the power of Ho’oponopono.

I was invited to assist a meeting of activists working on stopping the dolphin hunt in Taiji, Japan (site of the movie ‘The Cove’). 12 hours after the meeting, the fishermen caught and killed a pod of dolphins. It awakened much within me…

The movie “The Cove” has caused quite a stir in many people’s hearts… Seeing dolphins captured for marine parks and the rest killed by the hundreds is hard stuff to swallow!

It has initiated a firestorm of protests, anger and hatred… to the Japanese fishermen who hunt them, to the marine parks that keep them in captivity, even to the citizens of the town of Taiji…

A whole lotta polarization!!!

Its easy to get angry; the previews of ‘The Cove’ caused so much grief in me, I posted a video in reply, “The Cove – From Hatred to Healing“. It was a way to channel my pain into something constructive…

Its easy to judge and condemn the actions of others that upset us, and the small village of Taiji, Japan, where the fishermen annually catch and kill hundreds of dolphins, has become a focal point, a flashpoint for lots of activists.

But condemning anything has within it the seeds of its own destruction…

There is another, much more powerful way to heal, and that is to take responsibility for the imbalance we perceive. From a quantum perspective, anything we ‘see out there’ in the world is a reflection of our own thinking, of our own judgments and beliefs. I know, this is a crazy supposition when you first entertain it, yet if you do, it will yield great rewards…

Whaling sucks…. at least for the whales and friends of whales. Having swum alongside them in numerous occasions, I know them to be gentle giants…

Whaling is a debate with two sides; two very polarized groups that often demonize each other.

“That which you resist; persists.” Hence, whaling is up for voting again. Because ‘they’, the whalers, are back with more momentum and backing.

I’m tired of putting the whalers out of my heart… it hurts. So I’m choosing to see the debate as an external reflection of an inner polarity, and using ho’oponopono to clean it up.

I posted another dolphin video today. It only took about two hours to make. The movie ‘The Cove’ has done so much to raise public awareness, and the “My friend is…” video, with many famous stars speaking to the qualities of the dolphins, has generated a buzz.

So I’m surfing that wave in preparation for a series of webinars to use ho’oponopono and quantum resonance to assist a paradigm shift within the heart of humanity.

All the dolphin and whale news is bringing the Cetacean Nation back into our collective consciousness. This time, rather than a ‘ban’ on whaling, let’s put whaling to rest for good. Imagine that, humans and cetaceans living in harmony…    Now, just keep imagining it, and smile…

It was a beautiful day out on the water. I was snorkeling off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where I live. The water was quite clear that day, and I’d caught a few lobster for my dinner (I love catching my own food!)

I was about 1/3 of a mile offshore, towing my red and white dive flag about 50 feet behind me, when all of a sudden, I saw a wall of brown water coming towards me…

When the tide drops out here, all the water from the 100 miles of canals empties into the ocean… sometimes its pretty yucky stuff… but I’d never seen it this brown (think ‘shit-brown’). Gross…

And I had to swim in it!

I headed back for shore, my reverie ended. Once the tide turns, it stays dirty, the whole swim back…

I felt my energy contract, like someone running for the car in the rain, as if by pulling our aura in, we won’t get as affected… ha! Felt myself fearing getting funky bacteria in my mouth… yeow.

After a few minutes I felt like crap… I love my ocean! And then I had an epiphany (an ‘aha!’)… The ocean doesn’t see herself as dirty or bad or wrong. Clear, blue or brown, she just is… its only me, in my judgment, that sees this water as bad…

In Ho’oponopono, the Hawaiian art of healing, whenever we perceive something as out of balance, we take full responsibility for it. If I’m seeing it, its mine to be fixed. Maybe on a quantum level, the ocean is appearing dirty because of me and my beliefs, maybe its just mirroring the shit in me.

I started repeating the Ho’oponopono mantra; (I love you, I’m sorry, forgive me, thank you) and within a minute I relaxed…

A few minutes later, I noticed something quite amazing…

The water was practically clear again.
