9 Year Old Ocean Meditator

by Joebaby on August 18, 2009

How long is too long to apologize? Its never too late. I apologize.

If you don’t know what that’s for, save it for future reference! ;)

I went to the ocean yesterday for a swim; it was rough (thanks to Tropical Storm Claudette, the first storm of the season here in Florida)

There was a young boy sitting cross legged at the water’s edge. His hands were on his knees in typical meditation position (palms up, thumb and middle finger touching)

Pretty cool, I thought, a beachside Indigo Kid!

Then I went into the waves and body surfed.

I have a group of Canadians flying down next week. I’m leading them on a weeklong trip to swim with the wild dolphins in the Bahamas. I’d just learned there was another storm on its way from Africa to North America, and it was already a hurricane; Hurricane Bill. Anticipated arrival date? Next week.

So while playing in the surf, I reached out to this big swirling storm and asked it to relax… relax… picturing it dissipating into nothing. I even massaged its shoulders, felt tension drain out of my own body…

I felt a little guilty; who knows the highest service of this weather? So I ended up putting light around it, and envisioned our group swimming happily in the Bahamas with clear skies, calm seas and plenty of dolphins.

Looked up, noticed the young boy making his way into the surf.

“How long have you been meditating?” I asked, thinking he’d been doing it awhile. My mind was making up stories about him meditating since he was 5 or something amazing…

“About ten minutes” he replied.

I laughed.

“I was asking the waves to quiet down” he said.

Quite a coincidence!
