Is Life always offering us a Simple Solution?

by Joebaby on September 4, 2009

Is there always a simple fix to life? Or are we here to work out complicated things… Is the Universe always offering us a short cut, a ‘halleluia’ way for our problems to be resolved?

More and more, I’ve come to think so… and that it is only us, in our left, logical complex way of thinking, that makes things complicated.

My laptop, the hub of my online existance, stopped opening word documents about 10 days ago. I tried some quick fixes, but was out the door to go to the Bahamas for another Bimini trip. The whole week I was there, no word documents. (If you want to not be able to use word, the Bahamas is the place to do it!)

I got back a few days ago and realized two things; 1 – I needed to get this problem fixed soon, and 2 – I was amazed at how I’d adapted without it! Us humans are so adaptive…

Following friends’ advice, I removed and re-installed the software. No luck.

Brought the laptop into Office Depot for a ‘free’ scan. The scan revealed ‘malware’ (surprise!) and they offered to fix it for a special price of $149, normally $199. I hesitated, (that’s 1/4 the cost of the computer!) and while I paused, found myself bombarded by the sales clerk’s graphic narration of how the malware was even now eating, munching and chewing up important parts of my computer…

I was put off by the hard sell, but relented… (fix it NOW!)

After he got my laptop plugged in and was taking down my data, he said “Ooops, it’s not $149, it’s actually $169.”

Screw him and his commission. I unplugged and walked.

Called a sofware savy friend (i.e. my geek buddy), he gave me a number of a friend who could fix it. Called him, we talked, $65 to get it fixed. “Re-install and re-boot first”, he said, and I was impressed that he would offer advice that might make his services obsolete… and decided that if the re-boot didn’t work, I’d use him. (I trust him).

Opened an email from a coaching client overseas… she’s having a tough time, everything’s presenting as an obstacle. I pulled a Course in Miracles card for her, it said “Miracles are natural. When they do not occur something has gone wrong.” Emailed her the quote (plus a bill – not!;) and realized the card was for me too…

I removed and re-installed the software – no luck.

Got inspired and googled ‘”Microsoft Office Suite Word 2007″ with the word ‘fix’ and got 3 links to choose from… (is that good or bad?) … Clicked the first one, a Microsoft page, read the description of the problem (Hey, that’s me!) and clicked ‘fix’.

Took about one minute, the fastest fix so far…

Guess what? It works! IT WORKS!!!

That simple. Free (I like free!) and easy. Why didn’t I think of that first???

(Actually, I did, and for some complicated reason, didn’t apply it…)

After 20 years as a corporate consultant, I’ve seen it time and again – the simple solution lives right under our noses…

Think about it – is there something that you’ve been wrestling with, that has a simple solution, a solution that’s right now under your nose?

(Maybe that’s why you read this!)
